For Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oils/KTM’s Justin Hoeft, motorcycles have been a part of his life since a young age—trail riding with his dad and brother near the family home in Castaic Lake, California. Nowadays, Justin is a member of TLD’s elite amateur motocross team, and is working hard to one day compete under the stadium lights for a top-level factory supported team. A man of few words, we managed to coax some answers out of him to get a glimpse into what he’s like off the bike.

 When you’re not riding…

Oh man, I have to think about that. I’m always riding (laughs). I like to hangout with my friends. That’s pretty much it… Hangout with friends and ride.

What are your favorite riding spots and why?

I would have to say track-wise, going to Glen Helen is the best. As far as trail riding goes, I like going to Wyvern, because they have some big jumps there. I also like trail riding by my house in Castaic.

Who got you started with motorcycles?

My dad. He grew up racing and he got me a dirt bike when I was four. It’s what I’ve been doing ever since.

What does style mean to you?

I think how you look on and off the track is important. You have to be looking clean—I hate getting roosted (laughs). I don’t know… You have to look comfortable on the bike too.

 Who influences you?

I’d have to say Chad Reed. I don’t know; there’s just something about him. He has good style, and he always looks clean. I also look up to Ryan Villopoto. He’s pretty gnarly, because of how he rides.
